Cell Phone Shipments Up 24.5 Percent

Japanese shipments of cell phones rose 24.5 percent in August from a year earlier to 4,148,000 units, extending a rising streak to 10 months, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said.

Shipments of cell phones excluding personal handy-phone system (PHS) handsets rose 22.4 percent to 3,988,000 units for the 11th straight monthly gain, the association said. (Kyodo News)
