Royal Philips Electronics and Nellcor, a division of Tyco Healthcare, announced a long-term agreement to make Nellcor's new OxiMax(R) pulse oximetry technology available for Philips patient monitoring platforms, including its IntelliVue system. The terms of the agreement will allow Philips customers to use Nellcor's new OxiMax sensors, including the MAX-FAST(TM) Adhesive Forehead Sensor and the SoftCare(TM) Nonadhesive Sensor, according to the two companies. Philips and Nellcor plan to market new solutions that support the use of OxiMax sensors and technology in Philips monitoring systems in the U.S. In addition, the companies said clinical studies will be conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of OxiMax technology with Philips patient monitoring platforms.

"Many clinicians have expressed great interest in Nellcor's OxiMax technology and have specifically requested to use these sensors with our IntelliVue monitoring platform," said Ken Ferry, senior vice president and general manager, patient monitoring for Philips Medical Systems.
