Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. announced an expanded multi-year agreement with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. According to the agreement, Matsushita will incorporate Gemstar-TV Guide's latest interactive program guide (IPG) for the consumer electronics arena—TV Guide On Screen(R)—into Panasonic consumer electronic devices in North America.

According to Gemstar-TV Guide, this North American agreement builds on the already strong relationship between it and Matsushita in Japan, where Matsushita was the first company to launch Gemstar-TV Guide's IPG in 2001. Gemstar-TV Guide's IPG for the consumer electronics marketplace is marketed as G-GUIDE in Japan.

While extending the reach of Gemstar-TV Guide's technology and content, the company said the agreement also builds on the momentum it has been generating for its IPG technology and intellectual property with leading consumer electronics manufacturers. Matsushita will pay license fees to Gemstar-TV Guide based on the number of units sold that include the licensed technology. The agreement does not include a minimum commitment.
