Japanese Cell Phone Shipments Surge in July Sep 10, 2003 |

Japanese shipments of cell phone handsets surged 40.3 percent in July from a year earlier to 5,254,000 units for the ninth straight monthly gain, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said.
It is the third time on record that domestic shipments of mobile phones, including personal handy-phone system (PHS) handsets, have surpassed 5 million units in a month. (Kyodo News)
