After a 39-year career with SCHOTT Glas, Herwig Scheidler retired on June 30, 2003. Mr. Scheidler is known as one of the "fathers" of Ceran® glass-ceramic cooktop panels for smoothtop ranges. He introduced the Ceran-Top-System®, the concept of the system approach for smoothtop ranges, which became enormously popular first in Europe, then in the U.S. and in other regions of the world. Most recently he worked with Rinnai Corporation/Japan to develop a gas cooking appliance with Rinnai’s completely new "Inner Burner" system integrated in CERAN® glass-ceramic cooktop panels.

Mr. Scheidler began his career with SCHOTT, where he was a member of the laboratory department, working on the development of special glass and glass-ceramic. He moved on to become the Manager of Applications Engineering and the General Manager Marketing/Development/Applications. In 1990 he became the Vice President of the White Goods Business Segment, responsible for development, marketing and sales. In 1996 he was assigned as Project Manager for "Gas-CERAN®," for which he successfully developed the business in the Asian markets.

In nearly 40 years with the company, he was the inventor or co-inventor of more than 50 patents related to system solutions for home appliances.
