Electrolux Introduces Dynamic Vacuum Insulated Freezer Technology

Electrolux, the Swedish producer of appliances for kitchen, cleaning, and outdoor use, announced it has developed a patented technology for high-capacity refrigeration products. According to the company, its Dynamic Vacuum Insulated Freezer offers kitchens increased storage volume with greatly reduced energy consumption, as it replaces the current requirement for thick insulation.

The micro cellular insulation between the plastic inner liner and the plastic outer cover of the new Dynamic Vacuum Insulated Freezer is kept in vacuum by a small plastic pump, the company said. The insulation technology is said to be almost four-times more effective than conventional Polyurethane foam insulation, providing for a 35-percent reduction in energy use as compared to a standard built-in freezer, Electrolux said.

According to the appliance maker, malfunctions within the system are easily detectable, and the vacuum pump makes it possible to utilize commodity plastics and conventional assembly methods. Reduced energy consumption means lower costs for kitchens and, therefore, makes the end appliance more environmentally sound, Electrolux said.

"Electrolux has always taken product advancements that help drive sustainable development very seriously," said Claudio Cenedese, Manager Primary Electronics, Core Technologies and Innovation at Electrolux. "The Dynamic Vacuum Insulated Freezer is a key example to indicate that such solutions are not always complicated ones."
