Skyworth Digital Holdings Ltd., China’s leading television manufacturer, said Monday its TV sales overseas dropped 5 percent on year in July, an improvement on the 10-percent decline in June.
In July, it sold 141,000 TVs overseas, bringing total TV sales in the month to 535,000, up 30 percent on year.
Earlier, the company reported a 49-percent rise in July domestic TV sales.
During the month, Skyworth sold 48-percent more audio-visual (AV) products domestically, for a total of 31,000 units.
Overseas AV sales more than tripled to 111,000, indicating that this market segment has largely recovered from the impact of SARS.
In May and June, overseas AV sales fell 43 percent and 38 percent on year, respectively.
A company official said that overseas sales of both TV and AV products showed a marked pickup in July from the previous months, when they were weakened by the impact of SARS and the Iraq war.
Nevertheless, overseas TV sales declined on year during the month due to the high base of comparison with 2002 when there was strong demand due to the soccer World Cup. (Dow Jones)
