Stanley Electric Co. said it established a wholly owned subsidiary in Taiwan on Feb. 25 to produce and market cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL). The new firm, Taiwan Stanley Electric Co., will start operations in November and have monthly production capacity of 1 million units initially, the major maker of electrical equipment for automobiles said. CCFLs are used as backlight sources for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The LCD market is expanding rapidly in Taiwan, and the new subsidiary aims to meet growing demand there, Stanley said.
