Air-conditioning major Fedders Lloyd will this year concentrate on building up volumes in the consumer and household segment, an area it has decided to re-enter after almost 2 decades. Says Fedders Lloyd Corp. CEO R Krishnan, "Our total thrust will be on the consumer."
With this in mind it is launching a range of new models of window, split, and ductible air-conditioners, under the sub-brand Lloyd Royal Gold and Lloyd Royal Star. It will also introduce models specially designed for coastal areas, with a rust-proof, stainless steel body and non-corrosive copper coils.
Fedders Lloyd is also expanding its business to new segments like transport refrigeration systems, bus air-conditioners, and water coolers. "We will enter these segments before the end of the year. Already we are in advanced stages of talks with companies in Europe and Korea. The tie-ups will be for technology transfer, while manufacturing will be done by us," says Mr. Krishnan.
More recently it entered into a tie-up with a Chinese firm, Broad Air Conditioning, to market vapor absorption based airconditioners in the consumer segment, that consumes less electricity as it has water as a refrigerant. While this technology is available in the commercial segment, it is being offered in the consumer segment for the first time. (Financial Express)
