Hitachi Buys IBM'S HDD Business

Hitachi Ltd. said it has completed the purchase of the hard disk drive (HDD) business of U.S. computer maker International Business Machines Corp (IBM) and launched an HDD joint venture with IBM in the U.S. The California, U.S.-based joint venture, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Inc, combines the HDD businesses of the two firms, Hitachi said. It is owned 70 percent by Hitachi and 30 percent by IBM. (Kyodo News)
