Cell Phone Makers to Recycle

The Secretariat of the Basel Convention on hazardous waste and 10 major manufacturers of mobile phones said they have agreed to cooperate in recycling and disposing used handsets. The secretariat and the 10 makers, including Nokia Corp. of Finland and Japan's NEC Corp. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp., will jointly work out guidelines to minimize environmental disruption and human health problems resulting from discarded cell phones.
