Hewlett-Packard Co. plans to re-enter the market for desktop personal computers in China in 6 months after losses prompted it to pull out in 2001. HP is looking to return because China now has established consumer electronics retailers, easing the difficulty of distributing PCs to thousands of small, independent shops. HP will be competing against Dell Computer Corp., which has a 5-percent market share, and the Chinese company Legend Holdings Ltd., which has about 30 percent.(Bloomberg News)
