LG Electronics to Expand R&D Presence in China

LG Electronics Inc. said it plans to develop its Chinese base into a global R&D hub, as it is scheduled to kick off the Electronics R&D center in China covering LG Micron Ltd., LG Innotek Co., Ltd., LG Philips LCD Co., Ltd., and LG Philips Display. The Korean company plans to increase its R&D workforce in China to 1,000 over the next 10 years from the current 50 researchers. The Beijing-based center will research and develop CDMA handsets & equipment, digital TV, and digital display products. Another Chinese R&D center based in Tianjin is set to expand its workforce focusing on home appliances including air-conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and microwaves.
