Exports of digital TVs from Korea will likely triple in terms of value on a yearly comparison. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) of Korea said exports of digital TVs during the first nine months of the year stood at 470,000 units, up by 330.1 percent on an annual comparison. Exports of PDP-TVs also swung up to 4.4 times higher than figures seen in 2001.

The ministry said it expects overall exports of digital TVs to stand at 735,000 units, or U.S. $890 million, by the end of this year. Such a rise in digital TV exports can be attributed to a variety of models released by Korean companies, and an expanding market for digital TVs in North America, MOCIE said, adding that rising price competitiveness also contributed to increased exports. The world digital TV market stands at $6.7 billion this year, and is expected to expand to $34 billion by 2006. (Maeil Business Newspaper, Korea)
