Organizers of the first ISH North America said the event exceeded expectations. The show was held October 31 through November 2 at the National Trade Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Show organizers Messe Frankfurt, Inc., report the show had 10,735 attendees. Attendees came from more than 40 nations but the U.S. made the strongest showing, with 5,300 visitors, followed by Canada with more than 4,500 registrants. Messe Frankfurt said good business contacts were reported with large contingents of attendees from Italy, Taiwan, Mexico, and Germany.

ISH North America was produced in partnership with Messe Frankfurt, the American Supply Association, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating, and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association. Approximately 23 percent of the 475 exhibitors were Canadian. American companies accounted for 72 percent of exhibitors. About 5 percent were non-North American manufacturers.

"The impressive success of the first ISH North America event confirms the validity of the integrative approach of putting the kitchen & bath, plumbing, PVF, heating, and air-conditioning products under one roof," said Roland Bleinroth, president of Messe Frankfurt, Inc. "It's a great benefit to exhibitors who want to reach a mix of buyers representing all the key product lines crucial to their day-to-day business success. We will continue to pursue this concept and remain hopeful that other industry partners will join the trade show consolidation effort."

More than 80 manufacturers showcased products in a special New Product display. Awards were presented in six categories: kitchen and bath, plumbing and piping, heating and ventilation, software and electronic equipment, industrial products, and tools and equipment. A Best Overall Product award was presented to Viessmann.

The Design Plus showcase was included to add a touch of style and international flair to the show. This display included products from nine European manufacturers - winners of a prestigious design competition during the most recent ISH trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany. Show organizers said the Design Plus exhibit at ISH North America was a way of introducing these aesthetic and highly functional products and equipment to the North American market for the first time.

For the first two days of ISH North America a parallel event, LonWorld, was held adjacent to the show. LonWorld is a technology event sponsored by Echelon Corporation, featuring building automation applications among its user groups.

The next ISH North America will be held in Las Vegas, October 1-3, 2003, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Convention Center.
