Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings Ltd., a New Zealand-based home appliances maker, said first-half earnings increased as it boosted the profit on each item sold and increased sales at home and in Australia. Net income for the 6 months ended Sept. 30 rose to NZ $34 million (U.S. $17 million), from NZ $12 million a
year earlier. That's at the top end of the company's forecast
range. Sales rose 8 percent to NZ $400 million.

The manufacturer of dishwashers, ovens, and refrigerators gets
about three-quarters of its sales in Australia and its home market of New Zealand, where retail sales reportedly rose at the fastest pace in 3 months in August. Australian retail sales rose a second month in September. (Bloomberg News)
