Maytag Corp. announced plans to close its regional distribution center in Newton, IA, U.S. by the end of the year and lay off about 20 employees. A spokesman for the company said the closing is part of continuing efforts to consolidate Maytag and Amana operations. Operations at the Newton center will be phased out beginning in December and will close by the end of the year. Distribution centers in Denver and a former Amana center in Coralville, Iowa, will serve the upper Midwest region, which was previously served by the Newton center.
