IBM CEO Assumes Chairman Position Oct 30, 2002 |

International Business Machines Corp. CEO Sam Palmisano will assume the added role of chairman from Louis Gerstner, who will retire from the world's largest computer maker at year's end. Mr. Palmisano replaced Mr. Gerstner as CEO in March. Mr. Gerstner was hired in 1993 and will be an adviser to IBM after leaving the company and its board, a spokeswoman said. (Bloomberg News)
