Canon Inc.'s third-quarter profit surged 53 percent, as the Japanese office-equipment maker sold more laser printers and digital cameras. Group net income rose to 57.5 billion yen (U.S> $466 million) in the 3 months ended Sept. 30 from 37.5 billion yen, a year earlier, Canon said. Sales rose to 694 billion yen, up 2.0 percent from 680.3 billion yen.
The third-quarter result beat Canon's earlier forecast of
42.9 billion yen profit on sales of 690 billion yen. Canon said it expects full-year group profit of 175 billion yen, up from its earlier forecast of 168 billion yen, on sales of 2.91 trillion yen. (Bloomberg News)
