U.S. Vacuum Cleaner Shipments Increase

U.S. manufacturers’ shipments of full-sized vacuum cleaners rose 4.6 percent in September, the first monthly increase since May. Revised data issued by the Vacuum Cleaner Manufacturers Association showed 1,704,155 uprights, canisters, and stick vacuums were shipped, topping the 1,689,411 2 years ago as the biggest September ever.

The year to date reached 14,613,561 units, up 1.2 percent from 2001 and 1.1 percent ahead of the nine months in 2000, the industry’s peak year.
