Arcelik’s Beko Brand Becomes UK Refrigerator Market Share Leader

Arcelik A.S. said its brand Beko took the leadership position in the total refrigerator market of UK, excluding freezers. Arcelik said Beko surpassed other European competition in August when it achieved a 14.4-percent market share.
Arcelik, citing GfK figures for August 2002, says UK refrigerator market share also includes:
14.4% - Beko
14.1% - Hotpoint
6.2% - Bosch
Arcelik says it also holds an 11-percent market share in the UK oven market.
During the January - August 2002 period, Arcelik exported 490,000 products to UK. Arcelik estimates it shipped UE 71 million (U.S. $69.7 million) in exports. Ninety-one percent of exports were refrigerators, of which 97 percent were Beko brand.
“The developments in the UK market clearly demonstrate our determination to enhance our competitive positioning in the international markets,” said Nedim Esgin, CEO of Arcelik. “All of our activities are tailored such that they support these efforts.”
Arcelik A.S., headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, is the largest private-sector industrial corporation in Turkey. It produces refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, cooking appliances, vacuum cleaners, and compressors.
