According to a survey conducted by GfK Benelux Marketing Services, close to 485,000 digital cameras—worth 248 million euros—were sold in the Netherlands in 2002. This is reportedly an increase of 100 percent over digital camera sales for 2001.

The survey included department stores, as well as camera, electronic, telecom, and computer shops, which represent 80 percent of the digital camera market in the Netherlands.

The average price paid by Dutch consumers for digital cameras reportedly fell from 443 euros in 2001 to 417 euros in 2002. The average price rose to 421 euros in April 2003, which, according to Laurens van den Oever, project manager for GfK, had to do with improved quality.
