LG Electronics to Invest in Second India Plant

LG Electronics Inc.'s second home appliance plant in India is slated to be operational by the end of 2004 and will have an annual production capacity of 1 million units, a company spokesman said on Thursday. The South Korean home appliance maker's India unit will make a U.S. $52 million investment in the new plant, which will be located in the city of Pune, Maharastra. LG Electronics already has a home appliance plant located in New Delhi, which produces refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, microwave ovens, and air-conditions and has an annual capacity of 1.3 million units. The plant in Pune will focus on producing refrigerators and televisions for the southeastern region of India, the spokesman said. (Dow Jones)
