Gateway Names Ford Exec to Senior Marketing Post

Computer maker Gateway, Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has named Kristen Simmons to the newly created position of senior vice president, Consumer Marketing.
Ms. Simmons, who served as vice president of marketing at Ford Motor Co.'s Mazda North America unit, will begin work in early July and will be responsible for all of Gateway's consumer marketing strategy, planning, and execution. She will report to T. Scott Edwards, who serves as executive vice president, Consumer.
"Kristen is coming to Gateway as we are ramping up our transformation from a PC manufacturer to a branded integrator of technology solutions, " Ted Waitt, Gateway's chairman and chief executive, said. She is reflective of the world-class level of executives who are helping to run Gateway, and I am confident that with her dynamic personality, creativity and ability to generate big ideas, she will contribute strongly to our success."
Ms. Simmons, 35, has worked since 1995 in variety of marketing roles at Ford, most recently overseeing a budget of more than half a billion dollars at Mazda, where she led all marketing activities, including brand management, marketing communications, customer relationship management, e-business, and sales incentives. Prior to Ford, Ms. Simmons served in marketing roles at The Polk Company in Detroit, MI, U.S. and at Fruit of the Loom, in Bowling Green, KY, U.S.
She has an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, and a BBA from the University of Virginia.
