TiVo and Gemstar Drop Litigation

TiVo and Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. today announced that they have entered into a new collaborative business relationship and that standing litigation between the two companies will be dropped.

According to the business agreement, TiVo will take a patent license from Gemstar-TV Guide, and Gemstar-TV Guide will provide its branded content to TiVo. Within the terms of the business agreement, the two companies will work together with current and future Gemstar-TV Guide licensees in the technology and consumer electronics industries. According to the companies, TiVo will not be required to make any changes in its current electronic program guide data.

Representatives from the companies agree that the business relationship will be mutually beneficial. "This agreement underscores the value of the TV Guide brand, the power of our content, and the strength of our technology and intellectual property," said Jeff Shell, CEO of Gemstar-TV Guide. According to Mike Ramsay, CEO of TiVo, "This agreement is in keeping with our mission to open all avenues for deploying the TiVo service through consumer electronics manufacturers. We gain a great consumer brand partner in TV Guide that will offer content to enhance the TiVo experience for our growing subscriber base."
