According to Dell Computer Corp., it is expanding its business into new areas, such as data storage systems, handheld devices, printers, and now computer services. The company reports that it is creating a range of services that are intended to help it reach its goal of U.S. $60 billion in overall sales over the next five years.

According to Michael Dell, founder and chief executive of Dell, the company will not operate as a consulting firm, a role in which it would run a client’s data center. Instead, Dell plans to market computer services through its computer products. The company reports that computer hardware and software have become increasingly standardized, paving the way for Dell to market and sell service packages along with its computers and other products.
