Maytag Corporation was recently named Energy Star 2003 Partner of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. The Energy Star award is granted to manufacturers and retailers that successfully promote and deliver products bearing the Energy Star seal of approval to consumers. Maytag, which has been a partner in the Energy Star program since 1997, was chosen for this honor from among thousands of organizations involved with the program.
The Energy Star program, which was founded in 1992 by the EPA as a voluntary market-based partnership, now boasts affiliations with more than 7,000 organizations. This relationship between appliance manufacturers and the Energy Star program has put more than 750 million Energy Star-qualified products into American households over the last decade, according to the EPA. The program also assisted Americans in saving enough energy to power 10 million homes in 2001 alone.
Maytag will be recognized for its contributions to the reduction of greenhouse gas emmissions in a ceremony in Washington, D.C., U.S., on April 15, 2003.
