The Whirlpool Corp. cooking appliance plant in Tulsa, OK, manufactured its 20 millionth freestanding range yesterday.

The landmark appliance is a Whirlpool brand gas range.

"After producing ranges here in Tulsa for 18 years, Line 3 completed our 20 millionth unit this afternoon," said Bruce Alexander, Tulsa plant leader, on Thursday April 24. "We are proud to be invested in American manufacturing, and reaching this milestone today reflects Whirlpool's steady product leadership in building the industry's best ranges."

Employees working Line 3's two shifts produce gas ranges under Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and Amana brand names.

Employees who built the special unit took a group photo with the range and signed a congratulatory letter detailing the manufacturing milestone. The letter went into the range and is expected to be a surprise for the new owner when they open the range.

Production of freestanding ranges started in the Whirlpool Corp. Tulsa plant in 1996. The plant makes freestanding ranges for customers in the United and other countries, and today more than 1,000 employees manufacture cooking appliances there. Several cooking innovations have been introduced in Tulsa-made appliances, such as AquaLift oven cleaning technology.
