The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) sent its comments to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) in response to a request for information regarding efficiency test procedures for commercial water heating equipment—specifically commercial water heaters and hot water supply boilers.

The comments from AHRI voiced support for changes to update the reference to the 2013 edition of the Z21.10.3 Standard, and use AHRI 1300 as the basis for testing commercial heat pump water heaters.

But the organization objected to DOE’s suggestion that a test is needed to evaluate the insulation on unfired storage tanks. AHRI recommended that the thermal efficiency test method be left unchanged.
