New Home Sales Up 16.4% In Full-Year 2013

December 2013 sales of new single-family houses were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 414,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is down 7.0% from November's revised November rate of 445,000, but is up 4.5% above December 2012's rate of 396,000.

The median sales price of new homes sold in December 2013 was $270,200. The average sales price was $311,400. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of December 2013 was 171,000—5.0-month supply at the current sales pace.

December sales brings the full-year 2013 total new home sales to 428,000, up 16.4% over 2012's 368,000.
