UL Environment awarded Whirlpool Corp. Multi-Attribute Product Certifications for some of its clothes washers, including front load washers and the first certified top load models.

The certification is AHAM 7003-2013/CSA SPE-7003-13/UL 7003, Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Washers, one of the voluntary standards developed through a cooperative effort by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), UL Environment, CSA Group, and an AHAM taskforce with industry experts at Whirlpool Corp. and other manufacturers.

Whirlpool sees the certification as the recognition of its efforts to manufacture appliances with highest-standard energy/water efficiency and lifecycle sustainability without compromising performance.

The certification takes into account six environmental impact components:
* materials
* manufacturing and operations
* energy and water consumption during use
* consumables
* end of life
* innovation
