In the second quarter of 2013 the Motors Shipments Index from industry group NEMA was down 7.2% on a quarter-to-quarter basis.
The association noted that the index was still up 6.8% on a year-over-year basis and registered the second highest reading in the history of the index.
Fractional HP motors--the motor category used in most appliances--continued to be the driving segment of growth in the index. Inflation-adjusted shipments of FHP motors showed a gain of 13.0% .
Integral HP motor shipments were down 1.9% from the same period of the previous year.
