Hispanics in 2012 Spent $19 Billion on Home Improvement

Hispanics' share of U.S. home improvement spending was over $19 billion, or 9% of total home improvement sales, according to estimates presented by The Stevenson Company's David Garcia at an Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) Market Statistics meeting.

Garcia said that internet adoption by Hispanics has accelerated and is now on-par with United States consumers overall when it comes to outdoor power equipment: 37% shop online, 11% buy online.

Other findings presented at the OPEI conference:
* Hispanics top retailers for outdoor power equipment are Sears and Home Depot.
* Hispanics are two times more likely to buy outdoor power equipment as a gift than is the overall population.

"With Hispanics making up over 50% of the total net increase of homeowner households in 2012, they are a critical segment that needs to be focused on within the Home Improvement Industry," Garcia said.
