Testing based on updated U.S. Department of Energy efficiency-test procedures gave the Rinnai E Series Combi Boilers a 95.5% AFUE rating, which the company said makes it the most efficient combi boilers on the residential market.

Rinnai Q Series Boilers earned am AFUE rating between 95% and 95.4%, which also ranked them among the most efficient heating-only boiler options.

Rinnai's newest line, the Q Premier Series, couples a solo boiler with a 24-gallon domestic hot water-charged indirect tank. Boilers in this line also earned a 95.4% AFUE rating.

The ratings make many of the company's boilers eligible for rebates under the American Tax Payer Relief Act. The act, signed into effect on Jan. 2, reinstates and extends tax credits for qualifying energy-efficient home upgrades purchased and installed through Dec. 31, 2013. Qualifying boilers--with at least a 95% AFUE rating--can earn homeowners up to $150 in tax credits.

Additional rebates may also be offered by local utilities, giving the homeowner a total incentive of up to $1,000.

E Series boilers are designed for homes with smaller domestic hot-water requirements--one to two baths. Two models in the E Series use an integrated single-speed boiler pump and three-way valve that provide domestic priority and supply a home with heat, as well as continuous hot water. The units have a proprietary stainless-steel heat exchanger. Unlike most traditional boilers, E Series units are wall hung, offering space savings and installation flexibility.

Q Series boilers have a fully modulating pump coupled with a proprietary stainless-steel heat exchanger. Btu inputs range from 85,000 to 205,000, and is designed for home or light-commercial applications in need of zone heating that have a separate hot-water source. One unit in this series is the 175,000-Btu Q Combi Boiler, providing both heating and domestic hot water.

Q Premier Boilers, engineered with the company's industry-exclusive heat exchanger, is a fully assembled system designed for a faster, easier install with multiple plumbing and venting options.
