Haier Electronics CEO Yang Retires; Zhou is Named New Chairman

Yang Mian Mian, executive director and chairman of Haier Electronics Group Co., Ltd. (Hong Kong), retired on June 25. Company CEO Zhou Yun Jie was named as the new chairman of the company.

The company is one of the world's biggest makers of washing machines and is a publicly traded business unit of China's Haier Group Company.

The company said Ms. Yang tendered her resignation because she had reached the age of retirement, but she will carry on as a Senior Advisor to the company. The company said it may periodically seek advice from Ms. Yang on the corporate strategy and related affairs of the company and its subsidiaries.

The company statement said Ms. Yang confirmed that she has no disagreement with the board and that there is no other matter with respect to her retirement that needs to be brought to the attention of company shareholders.

The board expressed its gratitude to Ms. Yang, a group founder, for her contribution to the group, during which time she guided the group to overcome various challenges and assisted in making it a market leader.

The group noted that, in the financial year ending in 2012 it recorded an increase of about 275% in audited revenue and a 272% increase in profit. Statements from the chairman, released earlier in 2013, said that the Haier brand of washing machines continued was the world's No. 1 brand for the fourth year. The chairman's letter said the Haier brand's global market share increased 0.9% from 10.9% in 2011 to 11.8% in 2012.

Effective June 25 the board appointed CEO Zhou Yun Jie to be the chairman of the company.

Mr. Zhou has served as an executive director and general manager of the company since November 2009 and became CEO in March of 2013.

Mr. Zhou graduated from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in 1988. He has a Master's degree in corporate management from the Ocean University of China and has completed his Doctoral courses with a diploma in Management from the Xian Jiaotong University. He joined Haier Group in 1988 and has over 20 years of experience in sales management, enterprise management, and international business. Currently, he is an Alternative President and Deputy Chairman of the board of Haier Group, and also he is a deputy to the 12th National People's Congress of China.
