Several media sources report that outdoor power equipment maker Ariens will close its plant in Opp, AL. Production is scheduled to shut down at the end of July 2013. The shutdown will affect 17 employees in Opp.

Ariens acquired the plant a part of its acquisition of Lock Turf, maker of reel mowers, in 2006.

Bob Bradford, Ariens senior vice president of operations, said in a statement that closing the plant was not a reflection on the performance of the plant. He credited Opp employees with making ongoing LEAN manufacturing improvements since Ariens took over of the facility. Bradford said all Opp employees were offered the opportunity to transfer to positions in other Ariens plants.

Manufacturing from Opp will move to other Ariens plants in Brillion, WI, or Auburn, NE.
