North American PCB shipments were down 2.1% in March 2013 compared to March 2012, with bookings down 2.3% year over year, according to IPC -- Association Connecting Electronics Industries.
Year-to-date PCB industry shipments were down 4.4%, with bookings down 5.1%.
Compared to the February 2013, PCB shipments in March were up 20.0%, with bookings up 22.2%.
The association reported that the book-to-bill ratio for the North American PCB industry continued strengthening in March 2013, to hit 1.08.
Sharon Starr, IPC director of market research, said that, while sales and orders remained below 2012, the North American PCB industry saw a return to "normal seasonal patterns" in March 2013.
"It is especially encouraging to see the book-to-bill ratio continue to rise in March for the fourth straight month, a good indication that sales will strengthen during the coming months," Starr said.
