Power tools/outdoor power equipment producer Makita Corporation, in the year ending March 31, 2013, reported net sales of 309,630 million yen (approx. US$3.158 billion), up 4.7% from 295,711 million yen in the year ended March 31, 2012.
Operating income was 45,366 million yen, down 6.5% from 48,516 million yen in the previous fiscal year.
Makita saw net sales in its home market of Japan grow 6.4% from the previous year. Net sales in Europe were up 1.4%, primarily from solid sales in Russia.
Net sales in North America were up 10.7%, an increase attributed to exchange rates, the recovery in the United States housing market, and strong sales in the 2012 Christmas season.
