Gorenje has completed the relocation of washing machine and dryer production from Sweden to Velenje, Slovenia. Gorenje employees and members of the management and supervisory boards joined an event to officially launch production of Asko-brand washers and dryers in Velenje by symbolically starting up the automated washing machine tub line.
Gorenje halted washing machine and dryer production in Swedish in late January of 2013. Launch of production in Velenje required the transfer of 14 different processes in a matter of a few months, including purchasing, logistics, IT, controlling, finance, maintenance, and product management. Employee training was also essential.
Gorenje Group acquired Asko in 2010 and hopes to generate 20% of its overall revenue with the premium Asko brand in the coming years.
Gorenje will also relocate dishwasher manufacturing from Sweden to Velenje in the second half of 2013. This will be the final step in the group's restructuring of manufacturing operations, which began in 2012.
The company expects the transfer of production to plants with lower costs will generate annual savings of at least EUR 15 million starting in the year 2014.
