Heating equipment maker Viessmann Group (Allendorf/Eder, Germany) reported sales of EUR 1.89 billion in 2012, and saw growth in its markets in Germany, China, North America, and Russia.

Dr. Martin Viessmann, speaking at the HVAC trade show ISH Energy 2013, said Viessmann Group's total sales of EUR 1.89 billion in 2012 was up EUR 30 million, or 1.6%, from 2011.

The growth in sales came largely in Germany, with sales up 3%. Total exports were up 0.2% from 2011. The proportion of international sales fell to 54%, from 55% in 2011.

Dr. Viessmann, CEO and managing partner with the family owned business, said the industry saw widely different regional developments.
* A Belgian market slump came about with the end of subsidies for condensing technology, heat pumps, and solar power systems.
* Markets in Spain, Romania and, Poland suffered significant downturns.
* Sales in China, North America, and Russia were described as "buoyant."

Growth in 2012 was down from 2011's 8%. Dr. Viessmann characterized 2012 sales as satisfactory, however, given the difficult economic conditions in Europe. In terms of heating system unit sales, 2012 was up 5%.

Dr. Viessmann attributed the discrepancy between turnover and sales figures mostly to three factors:
* The increasingly trend toward economical products, particularly in growth markets in Eastern Europe.
* A general downturn in market volume for solar energy--down 9%, for example, in Germany.
* Lower prices for photovoltaic modules.
