The first significant shipments of the HomePlug AV2 and MoCA 2.0 standards will be seen in 2013, offering higher speeds and better robustness under different line conditions, according to ABI Research.

The research firm said that not all devices shipped using the new standards will support all features, which means many will not offer gigabit speeds.

The firm expects North American MoCA households to reach more than 25 million by 2014, and expects similar numbers in Western Europe for HomePlug.

The firm said that, while no new wires home networking solutions have been adopted by pay-TV operators, the way to more consumer mindshare will be through hybrid networking solutions, consumer education, and retail. The firm said the retail market is increasingly becoming the focus of many companies that are in the market.
