Panasonic to Appeal Europe's CRT Decision

Panasonic Corp. (Osaka, Japan) plans to appeal a European Commission decision that found Panasonic and other companies had restrict competition in the cathode ray tube business.

Panasonic said it believes the Dec. 5, 2012 decision "is factually and legally erroneous as it applies to Panasonic and MTPD." MTPD is Panasonic subsidiary MT Picture Display Co., Ltd. Panasonic and MTPD have already exited the CRT business.

The fines imposed by the decision against Panasonic and MTPD were:
* Panasonic: 157,478,000 euros
* Panasonic and MTPD, jointly and severally liable: 7,885,000 euros
* Panasonic, MTPD, and Toshiba Corp., jointly and severally liable: 86,738,000 euros
