Small appliance maker Jarden Corp. (Rye, NY, U.S.) reported third quarter net sales of $1.71 billion, down from $1.78 billion for the same period in 2011. Organic net sales were down 1.8% or $32 million. Jarden's third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2012.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, Jarden net sales were $4.88 billion, from $4.94 billion in the same period in 2011. Organic net sales grew 1.5% or $73 million.
Jarden operates in three primary business segments, selling small appliances through its Consumer Solutions segment. Consumer Solutions' net sales in the third quarter were $509.6 million, from $522.4 million in the same period in 2011. Segment earnings were $79.0 million, from $74.7 million in the same period in 2011. Operating earnings were $54.0 million in the third quarter, from $66.6 million in the third quarter of 2011.
Consumer Solutions' net sales in the nine months ending Sept. 30, 2012 were $1,260.5 million, from $1,258.4 million in the first nine months of 2011. Segment earnings were $176.0 million, from $172.3 million in the first nine months of 2011. Operating earnings were $145.3 million, from $149.5 million in the first nine months of 2011.
