July 2012 shipments of steel products from metals service centers In the United States were 3,288.9 thousand tons, up 5.4% from July 2011. For 2012 year-to-date, steel shipments were 25,378.2 thousand tons, up 5.8% from the same period in 2011. Steel product inventories were 8,933.1 thousand tons at the end of July 2012, up 6.2% from July 2011 and down 1.0% from June 2012. At the current shipping rate, this is 2.7 months supply in inventory, up 0.8% from July 2012.
July 2012 shipments of aluminum products from metals service centers In the United States were 121.7 thousand tons, up 3.6% from July 2011. For 2012 year-to-date, aluminum shipments were 914.7 thousand tons, up 3.8% from the same period in 2011. Inventories of aluminum products were 387.6 thousand tons at the end of July 2012, up 9.4% from July 2011 and up 2.8% from June 2012. This is 3.2 months supply in inventory, up 5.7% from a year ago.

For 2012 year-to-date, steel shipments were 3,774.3 thousand tons, up 1.8% from the same period in 2011. Steel product inventories were 1,634.8 thousand tons at the end of July 2012, up 0.9% from July 2011 and up 2.0% from June 2012. This is 3.5 months supply in inventory, up 0.4% from a year ago.
July 2012 shipments of aluminum products from metals service centers In Canada were 12.5 thousand tons, up 15.9% from July 2011. For 2012 year-to-date, aluminum shipments were 95.8 thousand tons, up 12.4% from the same period in 2011. Inventories of aluminum were 39.0 thousand tons at the end of July 2012, up 18.2% from July 2011 and up 6.1% from June 2012. This is 3.1 months supply, up 2.0% from a year ago.
