World crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 128 million tonnes (Mt) in June 2012, down 0.1% from June 2011.
June 2012 crude steel production:
* China produced 60.2 Mt, up 0.6% from June 2011
* Japan produced 9.2 Mt, up 3.5%
* South Korea produced 5.9 Mt, up 4.3%
* Germany produced 3.7 Mt, down 4.0%
* Italy's produced 2.4 Mt, down 7.9%
* France produced 1.3 Mt, down 2.1%
* Spain produced 1.3 Mt, down 8.8%
* Turkey produced 2.9 Mt, up 4.0%
* United States produced 7.3 Mt, up 0.8%
* Brazil produced 2.7 Mt, down 8.5%
The world crude steel capacity utilization ratio for the 62 countries in June 2012 rose slightly to 80.4% from 79.7% in May 2012. It was down 2.5 percentage points from June 2011.
Year-to-date. World crude steel production in the first six months of 2012 was 766.9 Mt, up 0.9% from the first six months of 2011:
* North America was 7.2%
* Asia was up 1.6%
* United States was up 8.4%
* China was up 1.8%
* European Union was down 4.6%
* South America was down 3.5%
