Canadian Residential Air-Conditioning Shipments Up in 1Q 2012

Residential air-conditioning units showed a big increase in Canadian shipments in the first quarter of 2012, according to the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI).

The organization said residential air-conditioning unit shipments were up 16% in the first quarter of 2012 compared to the first quarter of 2011. Residential furnace shipments were up 8%. Other sectors with 1Q 2012 increases (compared to 1Q 2011) included: ductless splits, up 5%; commercial air-conditioning, up 3%; and unit heaters, up 1%. Air handling unit shipments were down 17% and chillers were down 12%.
