Hitachi has labor trouble in Kadi, India, with about 500 seasonal workers from its air-conditioning plant on strike. On Tuesday of this week the striking workers held a rally.

The strike started almost a month ago, according to India media sources, and was touched off by the firing of 10 plant workers.

Striking workers want seasonal workers to get salaries and privileges more on-par with permanent employees. Media quotes say that seasonal employees are paid about half as much as permanent employees.

But an official with Hitachi Home & Life Solutions Ltd., quoted anonymously by India's Financial Express, pointed out that the workers were seasonal hires and that the seasonal demand has, in fact, ended.
