Technology has become available that may allow homeowners to use the power in their electric car's batteries to power their homes during a blackout. The technology was showcased recently by GE Corp. and Nissan at the SAE 2012 World Congress in Detroit.
A video from GE includes Chief Technology Officer Mark Little explaining how GE created a home using GE devices. It connects a Wattstation EV charger to a Nucleus Home Energy Manager. According to the video, an electric car could essentially serve as the home's emergency generator, providing power for up to two days.
