Rapid growth in the China PC market is coming from mobile PCs - notebooks, tablet PCs, and mini-notebooks, and NPD DisplaySearch expects China's total PC shipments in 2011 to exceed 100 million. It reported total PC shipments in the second half of 2011 were 53.4 million, up 12.7% from the first half of 2011.

The firm said China is the largest market for desktop PCs and related displays (monitors or displays in all-in-one PCs), the third biggest market for tablet PCs, and the fourth biggest market for notebook PCs and mini-notebooks. In terms of the total PC market, North America s the biggest regional market; No. 2 is Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and China is No. 3.

In the third quarter of 2011 the strength of tablet computer growth in China mobile PC pushed shipments in the mobile PC segment higher than in the desktop PC segment for the first time.

"Based on strong results in 2011, domestic brands are making aggressive plans for 2012," said Robin Wu, PC and TFT Analyst for NPD DisplaySearch. "With estimated growth of 28% in 2011, all brands expect continued good performance in notebook PCs, implying tougher market competition ahead in the China PC market."
