The HGTV Dream Home 2012 used National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Kitchen Planning Guidelines, which includes areas of the kitchen such as the work triangle traffic, seating clearance, dishwasher placement, cooking surface ventilation, and oven landing area.

This year’s Dream Home is a 4,000-sq-ft modern Western ranch house constructed near Park City, UT. NKBA’s kitchen planning guidelines were used by HGTV to design the house with access standards to create high-functioning spaces.

Every year for 16 years, HGTV has selected a new location as the site for the HGTV Dream Home House. Planner Jack Thomasson heads a team that constructs the home in only six months. Construction is chronicled at HGTV.com.
